Of all the addictions, the food addiction is the one thing which is a bit difficult to deal with. As we need food to live, we can not avoid eating completely as we can do with other addictions like tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. But if we follow few tips, we would be able to cut down our intake and come out of the food addiction.
Tips to overcome the food addiction:
■ You must not resist eating. This always results in over eating. As we try to suppress our inclination towards food, the rate of craving for food increases. So it is always better not to suppress the craving for food.
■ You must cut the quantity of food every time you eat and you can increase the number of times of eating. For instance, having a moderate amount of food six times a day is better than a heavy, stuffed and sumptuous meal three times a day.
■ You must avoid the intake of high sugar foods as they increase the blood sugar levels that may result in many health complications.
■ When your brain starts craving for food, you must get busy with some other work which keeps your brain too busy with that particular task. This procedure will avoid over eating.
■ The people, who suffer from food addiction, crave for food even when they have eaten enough. In such cases, they can indulge themselves in other physical activities like going for a walk, cleaning or re arranging their room or chat with their friends.
■ If your mind is in a depressed state, you may have the tendency to over eat. You must admit your emotional problems frankly to your doctor and follow his counseling tips which help you to over come both the problems of depression and food addiction.
■ Avoid reading books, talk with friends over phone or watching television programs while eating. These things will make you consume extra food unintentionally.
■ Develop the habit of eating slowly, chewing every bit of food well so that your brain will be able to register that you are eating. Definitely this habit will cut down the quantity of food in due course.
■ You must check your weight every day and you should observe your physique in a full view mirror every day. You will surely determine yourself to reduce your weight by cutting down the quantity of your intake.
■ The physical problems like hormonal imbalance, adrenal fatigue etc can lead to food addiction. You must have a regular health checkup to overcome these problems.
■ When ever you crave for food, try to drink a glass of water or have a healthy snack like vegetable salads, sprouts etc. They fill your stomach and satiate your appetite.
